The girls take turns opening up each day's tiny door, taking out an ornament, and hanging it on the knob.
The secular and religious symbols provide lots of interesting topics for conversation—the toy soldier, for example, reminds us of The Nutcracker that we attended over Thanksgiving weekend, while the angel gets us discussing the role of heavenly messengers in the Christmas story. There's a Santa and a baby Jesus, which help us talk about who should get the most emphasis during this holiday season.
I also like the deep base, which is just right for storing the wonderful cards, letters, and pictures we receive from family and friends throughout December (hint, hint).
Dinner last night: Italian sausage and spinach pie

And there's a puppy charm for Daisy, too!
I love that advent calendar...where did you get it?? I've been seeing home-made ones on other blogs, which are adorable, but I don't know if I have the patience to put one togehter!!
I love the advent calendar! I love the ornament idea! I think we might have to give that a go this year! What a wonderful way to collect special memories!
That is a fabulous advent calendar. My kids crave the chocolate ones I'm afraid. Time is passing so quickly that most of the shops had sold out of calendars before I even thought about buying them. What happened to November??
That's such a cute one! We have one with the little boxes too. I'm glad we don't hang them on the knobs, because last year (shhhh) I saw we were missing some, so I went back to the first day and "stole" them and moved them to the end. Gack! I know I know. Had to be done. Nobody noticed. :)
