Public Service Announcement

For all you new parents out there, I'd like to tell you about this great invention called a child safety lock. It comes in all shapes and sizes, but I prefer the plastic U-shaped device that slides easily through the handles of cupboards. It prevents curious toddlers from opening up, oh, let's say, the doors on the game cabinet in your family room, and pulling out, oh, let's just say for example's sake, every single board game you own.

And spilling out the contents.

All over the floor.

There's one flaw in the design of this child safety lock.

You have to close the cabinet doors first.

Dinner last night: Kalbi flank steak pinwheels, rice, salad

Oh no! That is quite the mess!
I just found your blog (through the comments on "I'm living proof God has a sense of humor") and have read all your posts through your archives. What a fun and interesting read! I'll be back to read more for sure! :)

Kim, OMG, you're kidding, right?? Did you have a heart attack right there on the spot??!! I think I would've just thrown myself on the floor in a heap and started crying.

But I do have to say that Shrek Operation game is pretty cool!

BTW, can you share the steak pinwheel recipe? Sounds yummy!

Soooooo, how long did it take to sort the Monopoly from the Operation and the Risk and the Sorry? (just guessing at some of these.....lol)

Hello, Lana, and welcome! I'm always thrilled to see a new face around here : )

G: What took those little destructors maybe 5 minutes to do, took me 1.5 hours to undo. That's what I get for stepping out of the family room to answer the phone. I was so mad at myself--I should have just let the answering machine get it : (

Helene: I actually got the steak pinwheels already marinaded from the meat dept of my grocery--they are sooo delicious. Even the babies loved them and were saying, "Mo' chicken, mo' chicken."

They're easy to make, but it's the MARINADE that makes them great. I'm going to check with the butcher to see if he sells the Kalbi marinade. If he doesn't, then I'll just try out different recipes off the internet. I want to find a good teriyaki, too.

1. Marinade flank steak in refrigerator for a day or two.

2. Slice the steak into thin strips, about 2" wide.

3. Roll the steak tightly into "pinwheels" (if they won't stay closed, jab a toothpick in to hold them or tie string around).

4. Roast in a baking dish at 350 for about 30 minutes. (You can also broil or grill, but I've found that roasting in my convection oven makes them super tender).
